The Issues

Protecting our Environment

Edgewater is a beautiful city but just miles from some of the worst air pollution in the country. With a growing population and increasing traffic across the Front Range, Edgewater needs to do everything we can to ensure we have affordable, accessible, and reliable public transportation. We should also ensure bikers and pedestrians can travel safely through Edgewater and into surrounding neighborhoods and cities. Micha will work to get city-wide composting and increase recycling rates, and lead the city's efforts to use 100% renewable energy by 2030. We may be a small city but we can have a big impact by being a leader in addressing climate change.

Preparing for Growth

Edgewater is a small town on the edge of a big city. With rising housing prices in Denver, more and more families and businesses are choosing to migrate to neighboring cities like Edgewater. Growth is inevitable - Colorado is a highly attractive state that is changing quickly. Rather than fight the inevitable, we need to ensure we have policies in place to maintain our city's character, charm, resources, and tax base while preparing for sustainable growth. Part of this means supporting small businesses and development that benefits residents and the local economy, while another is ensuring zoning policies respect neighborhoods and community interests. Micha will fight to ensure Edgewater is set up for success as it continues to grow.
Ensuring Livability
Traffic has increased along Edgewater's residential streets, as have traffic speeds. We need to do more to ensure Edgewater residents and visitors are protected from potential traffic accidents, while minimizing street noise. Some options for this include increased signage, lowering speed limits, additional cross-walks, speed bumps, and stop signs, and exploring medians in major streets to slow traffic. Pedestrians, cyclists, and resident safety should be of the utmost concern to the Edgewater city council.

Diversity and Representation

Edgewater is diverse racially and ethnically, with over 40% Latinx community members. Edgewater City Council needs to ensure all public meetings are accessible to the entire community, which could include Spanish translation services, childcare, and varied meeting times so that all residents have the opportunity to have their voices heard. The city also needs to continually review and analyze it's policies to ensure equity and justice, while mitigating any structural oppression of minority groups.

Supporting Working Families

Working families are the basis of Edgewater's economy and community. Edgewater needs to ensure that our housing policies, minimum wage, and downtown development, public transportation, and social services are supportive of working parents, small businesses, and the elderly. Edgewater City Council can also work with the state to advocate for policies including paid family leave, equal pay for equal work, accessible and affordable healthcare, strong renter's rights policies, and support for working families.
